Infinity Series
This series deals with the sculptural representation of a contained infinite or infinite set. All of the Notes All of the Rhythms is an object that in its pseudo-scientific or pataphysical (the science of imaginary solutions) construction—and not without a sense of humor—assembles a passageway by which all of the notes and all of the rhythms can commingle and create music. The series continues with All of the Words and All of the Colors which in similar style present the entirety of their respective mediums’ basic materials and the ability for direct use. All of the Sounds draws inspiration from Duchamp’s Chocolate Grinder and Klee’s Twittering Machine. The work has two control knobs, one for volume and one for tone, both of which act as conductor, manipulating the mixture of sound coming from the orchestra. Pessoa’s words from The Book of Disquiet make for fine accompaniment, “My soul is a hidden orchestra; I know not what instruments, what fiddlestrings and harps, drums and tambours I sound and clash inside myself. All I hear is the symphony.” All of the Sounds attempts a visualization of the idea that the orchestra can produce any and every sound. This series of work speaks of to the infinite qualities of artistic composition, those qualities that are paradoxically present, yet intangible.
